How New Jersey income tax works
New Jersey has two rate tables: Table A for single filers (1.4% to 10.75%) and Table B for married couples filing jointly and heads of household, which adds a 2.45% bracket and keeps lower rates longer.
There is no standard deduction. You subtract $1,000 for yourself (and your spouse if joint) and $1,500 per dependent child.
Elective 401(k) deferrals are excluded from New Jersey taxable wages.
