How Florida paychecks are taxed

Florida's constitution prohibits a personal income tax, so only federal taxes come out of your pay: federal income tax based on your W-4, Social Security at 6.2% up to the annual wage base, and Medicare at 1.45% (plus 0.9% over $200,000).

Making your Florida paycheck bigger

Because there's no state tax to reduce, pre-tax benefits are the main lever. A traditional 401(k) lowers federal income tax withholding; HSA and Section 125 health premiums also skip Social Security and Medicare.
